Deidre Bruhn - Artist Statement
Initially, my passion for art was sparked from life drawing sessions and experimental mark making of the figure and face.
My art has now evolved into a melting pot of mixed media applications which are composed of colour, texture, layering and collage pieces both made and found.
I continually construct and deconstruct as experimentation is an essential part of my process along with lots of energy and passion. Paper, wood panels and canvas are all my chosen substrates.
The joy for me is the serendipity and the totally unexpected outcome from working intuitively. There are no preconceived notions or planned end products and nothing in my art is predetermined.
Realism is not at all important but capturing the essence, intrigue or gesture of the subject is. Spontaneity and intuitiveness are elements I strive for in my work hoping to create an atmosphere in my compositions.
All my work reflects these processes and my constant desire to take risks and to produce art of depth and interest.
Authenticity, creativity and remaining true to myself is crucial to me.
Perfectly Imperfect.
